preserving the bands that never signed to a major label

Local Music Archive is a community-built digital vault and meeting ground for regional, independent, and defunct local bands from any era — whether your scene traded 70s & 80s basement cassettes, 90s 7-inch vinyl and photocopied zines, 2000s burned CD-Rs, or modern DIY recordings.

Inspired by the golden era of MySpace Music and LiveJournal scene communities, this platform exists so show flyers, 4-track demos, setlists, and live photos don't disappear in old shoeboxes or dead hard drives — and so former band members and scene regulars can reconnect in one place.

community rules & archival guidelines

Broad rules to keep the archive accurate, welcoming, and 100% free of garbage.

1. Any Era, Local & Independent Focus

Bands from any decade and any local scene are welcome. The archive is built for unsigned, independent, DIY, or regional bands whose history isn't already preserved by major-label catalogs.

2. Band-First, Minimalist Profiles

This is not Facebook or an influencer feed. Fan and member profiles intentionally show only your First Name, Unique Screen Name, City / State / Country, and Scene Favorites so the spotlight stays on the bands and genuine reconnections via Quicknotes/DMs.

3. Band Member Verification & Claims

Fans can start an archive page for a local band, and actual former band members can click “Claim Band Page” to submit verification proof. Once verified by the site admin, band members receive a Verified Band badge and stewardship over their band's page.

4. Zero AI Slop & Instant Auto-Triage

Every flyer, photo, and audio track must be a real scene artifact. If someone uploads spam, AI slop, or misattributed files, clicking [report] immediately pulls the item off the public page into an admin triage queue until it is verified or permanently deleted.

Archival Best Practices & Takedown Policy

  • Credit Photographers & Flyer Artists: Whenever you know who shot a photo, designed a handbill, or engineered a demo tape, include their name in the caption.
  • Artist Takedown Respect: If a verified band member prefers a specific demo track or photo not be publicly streamed, they can flag it or use their verified band access to remove it immediately.
  • Keep Scene Comments & Quicknotes Constructive: Old scene drama stays in the past. Harassment, doxxing, or spam results in immediate account removal.
